Ok I know I just made a post about how much I hate the avatar comics (I do) but I wanted to make an appreciation post for this comic (team avatar tales)

This comic is everything I wanted the main comics to be!!

There’s interactions between characters that didn’t have time to interact in the show (there’s a Ty Lee and toph comic!! Super unexpected but fun duo), theres more explorations of characters that weren’t included in the show as much, there’s short comics that actually match the ideas and themes of the show, the characters aren’t mischaracterised (unlike in the main comics…)- it’s such a good collection of short stories!!

Plus there’s gorgeous art and a whole comic of suki being a badass- what more could you want!

It’s only a short collection of comics, but it does more for me than all of the main comics that were released as a continuation of atla

Unpopular opinion: Fandom often fails to distinguish between Azula being wrong and Azula being dumb.

Can she make mistakes? Obviously. But her mistakes are not stupid ones.

Why does everyone get Zuko’s scar wrong? I never talk about ATLA on here but this is just a random thought. Cause I’m every live adaption I’ve seen, Zuko’s scar is always so wrong, it’s like they don’t even try. And his scar is his most important feature. His eye is half closed and the scar is supposed to run all the way to his ear. Y’all make Zuko’s scar look like a rash, rather than a burn.

You know what’s astonishing about Katara? She grew up in a world without bending.

It’s not surprising that Sokka calls her bending ‘magic water’ in the first episode. It might as well have been magic to them at that point; they had never seen it in practice until they meet Aang.

So not only did Katara not have any teachers, she didn’t have any kind of guidance, no visual aids, no idea of how bending is supposed to look or work. The first time she ever sees actual waterbending movements is when she steals the waterbending scroll from the pirates. The first time she meets another waterbender is when she reaches the North Pole, where within weeks she outmasters pretty much everyone and goes on to teach the Avatar.

Everything she does is so incredibly impressive, and yet I can’t help but feel the most proud of her when she catches a fish on that little boat.

idk if this is considered an unpopular opinion but I hate when I see fics on Azula redemption or Zuko's reign and it's written in a way that makes it seem like the Fire Nation hates Azula. Azula was the pride of the Fire Nation and royalty, the Fire Nation wouldn't have hated her. If anything, they would've felt like it was some sort of injustice that Azula was removed from the throne. Y'all have to remember that Zuko was seen as a traitor of the Fire Nation. If anything, people would've hated HIM in the beginning and even towards the middle of his reign.

Deconstructing colonialism takes a long time. Truth be told is would take DECADES for the Fire Nation to dislike Azula and even after decades, she probably would still be socially acknowledged for her prowess and dedication to the Fire Nation by many.

It would go something like this:

"Yeah, Azula capturing Ba Sing Se was bad, but you can't lie, she did in 3 days what General Iroh tried to do in 600. That's fucking amazing."

That's how people talk about some conquerors now, why wouldn't they talk about them like that in ATLA?

I think there's a part of the fandom who idolizes them due to probably the fact that at the last LoK episode they made a queer couple canon (kinda out of the blue, since they did not have a proper build up like another popular queer couple from the avatar novels).

Why do people act like the live action adaptation of Atla is necessarily going to be bad because Bryke isn't present for the project ? Are people still not aware that the Atla series is not what it is thanks to him? That if we had left the series in his hands it would have been rubbish or probably passable and forgettable ? Why do people act like this guy is the god of the universe Atla ? It makes me crazy. If the netlfix adaptation fails, sorry, but that has nothing to do with Bryke's absence. I mean... have you read / seen the comics which follow the series managed by him and the legend of Korra ?! You have to stop messing around after a while.

Another thing about ATLA that applies to both the original and live-action is that Fire Lord Ozai doesn't love Azula, he just hates Zuko. Ozai's disdain for his son is the only thing that pushes him to his daughter. If it weren't for the fact that Azula shares the same disdain for her brother, and is incredibly desperate for her father's validation, Ozai wouldn't care for her either. The only reason I can sympathize with her a little is because her dad groomed her to be like him. Azula never stood a chance, really

i might be in the minority for this but. people saying that as a 14 year old they would have had a crush on zuko. i was 14 when i got really obsessed with the show and i crushed on aang. especially book 3 aang. aang in The Headband altered my brain chemistry. idk i like soft extroverted golden retriever boys who are fine w appearing more feminine and are gentle in nature, not angsty and volatile the way zuko is esp with his anger issues. and i think that's why i ship kataang not because "it's the canon ship ofc you do" but because katara herself is passionate and explosive and sometimes uptight, aang gets to balance that out with his bubbly, happy go lucky personality

I love azutara when it's dark romance

I'm not referring to the dark romance where the protagonist is 4bus3d, gr4p3d and tortured, romanticizing those disgusting acts, no

I'm referring to the dark ROMANCE where the villain (Azula) falls in love with the protagonist(Katara) and would do everything possible to make her happy if that includes her own death, the dark romance where the villain would NEVER touch a hair of the protagonist without her consent

Maybe unpopular opinion? even though I don't think azula needs a redemption arc I found it weird how iroh was quick to just say she's far too gone when he only became a better person after loosing his son to the war. Who knows he could've been way worse than azula at 14 we don't know.

Maybe when he said she's far too gone he refered to how close she was to ozai but still iroh as a character kinda proves the idea that azula is far too gone wrong

Unpopular opinion: I think even fans of Azula tend to forget that she is extremely smart and perceptive.

I hate it when people reduce Aang to some “pure innocent uwu soft boy” when it’s canon he was mischievous and a prankster at times 😭whether it be dunking pies on monks’ heads with Gyatso, sliding down the chutes/using it as a slide when he’s not supposed to, scamming people with Toph….
